Medicine is very important during and after the surgical operation of dental implants. We classify the medicine into two categories:

  • Medicine that is important before the operation, such as those used for blood pressure, diabetes, thrombosis and anemia. The patient should also stop taking aspirin. Antibiotics should be taken at least one day before the operation — we advise third or fourth generation groups.

  • After the operation, ice should be applied directly to the skin opposite the operation area for thirty minutes. Anti-inflammatory medication, such as a Voltaren injection is necessary, drug for edema is important for the first 48 hours, finally antibiotics of modern generation should be taken for five or six days to avoid septicemia an bacteraemia which may cause failure of the implant.
