Hesham El Banna opened El Banna’s Gourmet Restaurant & Café at Hurghada Marina, and surprises tourists and residents alike with his excellent kitchen. When tasting his food you immediately feel the 20 years of experience he gathered in Switzerland. Born in Giza, Egypt in 1965 he discovered his passion for the kitchen already as a teenager and worked in various 5 Star hotels. Early in his career, he had the chance to serve Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and husband of the queen, and even was employed by the royal family of Oman for 3 years.
At the age of 25, El Banna decided to move to Switzerland where he went through specialized courses and trainings; he worked for 25 years at Sheraton Hotel Zurich and Swiss restaurants being decorated with Michelin Stars and Gault-Millau-Points. During the time period he stayed in Switzerland he also gave cooking lessons to governmental institutions and NGOs.
In 2009, he returned to Egypt with the mission to share his profound knowledge to the local people of the industry, and furthermore to train and develop “cooking at home” programming through TV shows in how to prepare and decorate special dishes for their families and friends. Once in Cairo, El Banna founded “Swiss Star Equipment and Management” for consulting hotels and restaurants, and conducted many courses to improve the skills of Egyptian chefs.
At the same time he started his TV cooking shows that kicked off 2012 through the Nile TV Family, followed by shows at CBC Sofra. These cooking shows, in which he was kitchen chef, producer and presenter, made him famous in Egypt and the Arab world. Many consultancy contracts followed with 4 and 5 star hotels and restaurants, as well as the production of TV spots to advertise food items, such as Crystal Oil.
