The latest project for the Rotary Club of Red Sea – El Gouna is a road safety campaign that was recommended by the Past District Governor, Ahmed Saada. He said the Red Sea roads are a perfect example and place to begin the project, especially since the fatal crashes are affecting tourism. The Red Sea club is the pioneer for this project in District 2451.

Rotary members immediately began researching road safety, meeting with officials from the Red Sea Traffic Department, analysing statistics for road accidents, and looking for ideas to raise awareness. The club is particularly keen to target touristic and school bus drivers and to raise awareness about the dangers of speeding, mobile phone use, not wearing seat belts, and the effects of drugs and alcohol on driving.

Road safety expert Dr Khaled Mostafa was invited by Rotary members to meet with the Red Sea Governor General Ahmed Abdullah, together with Club President Sherif Abdel Aziz and Rotary Special Governor Representative Dina Nashed. Mostafa then shared his valuable and expert advice with Rotary members at their meeting the same day.

Part of this on-going road safety campaign, has been to organise sustainable and on-going blood donation sessions throughout the Red Sea area. So far the club has organised seven events that collected a total of 112 bags of blood.

At the start of Ramadan 2015, members of the Rotary Club of Red Sea – El Gouna also discussed ways to help those in need living in Hurghada. The idea of preparing Ramadan food boxes was agreed, and donations were collected from the Rotary members, their close friends and family, and the food items were purchased. 110 food boxes were prepared and filled with cooking oil, dried dates, tomato paste, dried beans, pasta, rice, macaroni, sugar, flour, tuna fish, boxed feta cheese, and a tin of butter. The Ministry of Social Affairs had supplied the Rotary Club with names and phone numbers of those that would most benefit from the donated food.

Another on-going project is the sponsorship of a female student from the Red Sea area at the German Hotel School in El Gouna. Employment is guaranteed once the student successfully completes the three-year training and achieves the Fachkraft im Gastgewerbe German Chamber of Commerce qualification.

An Interact Club for Rotary Club of Red Sea – El Gouna has been established for members 12-18 years old, and a Rotaract Club will be set up for university students and young adults age 18-30.
